Two arrested for service tax default |

The service tax cell of the Central Revenue Department on Thursday arrested two persons, Bijoy Kumar Agarwal, Managing Director of Kolkata Cable & Broadband Pariseva Ltd, and Prasun Kumar Das, a Director of the company, for alleged Rs 5.52 crore service tax default. |

Both have been produced before the judicial magistrate’s court. Investigations are still in progress, the department said. |

KCBPL is engaged in providing cable TV service as a multi system operator. According to a department note, the company had collected service charges, but did not deposit it with the Government. This is a cognizable offence and punishable up to 7 years of imprisonment. The department has the authority to investigate, arrest and prosecute in service tax default cases. |
